Disk is cheap. Install everything as /usr/local/package-version,
nobody could possibly care how much is installed, except for the
person that pays for disks (or has to do the work). You then sym link
everything in */bin to /usr/local/bin that you want (that the sys
admin wants). The leftovers people can sym link into their own
private bin, if they want. You're happy, your sys admin is happy,
everyone wins.
Don't like egcs-1.0.3, just sym link over to gcc-2.95. 2.95 too old,
sym link over to egcs-990706.
