NetBSD uses egcs 1.1.1, with minor changes on all platforms except ns32k and
vax (where there are pretty major MD overhauls). NetBSD supports PIC and
shared objects on vax now.
However, from what I recall, a vanilla egcs 1.1.1 should compile stuff for
non-PIC code fine on vax.
egcs is the default compiler for all platforms in NetBSD-current.
