Cygnus has hacks in its tree which work in a similar manner. ie, we do the
install and install-info as separate steps. At least we used to, I don't know
if our releng folks still do that.
>From my standpoint it's actually been a lose. It's meant we had to keep
hacking up other packages to build in a similar manner and when we screw it
up, we have to wait *even longer* to find out that the info files were bogus.
Personally, I'd prefer to halt the install process as early as possible when
there's an error.
