I have successfully built and installed egcs-1.1a as the
native compiler on my Debian v 2.0 i386 (Intel Pentium) system.
In addition after native installation, I successfully built
and installed egcs-1.1a as a cross compiler for target 'sh-hms'
(i.e. OUTPUT_FORMAT="coff-sh" ) compiled with the just installed
native egcs-1.1.a. The cross binary tools where taken from
standard GNU binutils-2.9.1. The cross C-library is newlib-1.8.1.
I used the cross-compiler to recompiled the CMON PROM monitor that
came with my Hitachi SH1-LCEVB board. So far, the recompiled monitor has
not given me any problems. Therefore, I have some confidence in the
egcs-1.1a cross compiler.
When installing egcs as a cross-compiler, I DID have problems with
the install operation trying to create the unneeded Fortran library.
The output of config.guess is 'i586-pc-linux-gnu'.
