Hi,

I was poking around the egcs web pages and noticed this. While I can't
suggest an archiving engine with search capabilities (or one that
solves the patch problems ;-), I can suggest a GPL search engine
package that works very well on list archives.

The package is ht://Dig: <http://www.htdig.org/> and it allows
you to restrict or exclude search results based on the URLs involved.
Further, it's easy to index only certain portions of a web site or several
web sites based on URL patterns as well. I use it myself for mailing list
archives with something like this:

<input type="hidden" name="restrict" value="http://www.cygnus.com/ml/egcs/">

This would restrict all search results to only the egcs mailing list.
Since I'm currently helping out with development, feel free to ask me any
questions, comments, etc. I'm not a subscriber to the egcs list, I browse
the archives myself ;-)
