Re: Do we have a libtool maintainer?

Well, looks like we've finally cleared things up. The whole incident
about where to host libtool was a misunderstanding. When I
volunteered to co-maintain libtool with Gord, I had done so with the
condition that we had a CVS server for libtool, so that both of us,
and whoever else would join the team, could work on libtool without
depending on one another.

I think I have suggested that we should first try to set things up at
some GNU host, and only look for alternatives if that failed. It
turned out that Gord didn't have any news for me for some days, so I
assumed the GNU arrangement had failed, and mentioned that in a
message to the egcs mailing list.

I received several offers of hosts to libtool, one of which was from
Cygnus. Since I already had an account at Cygnus' sourceware, I
declined the other offers, and started discussing with Jason Molenda
how the set-up was going to be. Gord told RMS about that, and RMS did
not like the idea of hosting libtool at Cygnus.

It wasn't clear to me, at that time, why RMS disliked this choice that
much. Gord hadn't talked to RMS about the CVS server; he didn't even
know about it. Moreover, since libtool is a GNU project, and we were
just looking for a CVS server, the GNU CVS server would be the most
natural choice, exactly as I had first thought.

Sorry for all the confusion I may have caused. RMS, sorry about that
angry message I wrote to you. Gord, sorry for not talking to you
before announcing our search. Jason, thanks for having spent your
time on that. And thanks to the other projects that have offerred to
host libtool.

Well, that's all. I hope this clears up all the situation.
