Jeff, I haven't downloaded the diffs yet (just got the tarball, and
need to let my modem cool down -- union rules ;-).
But, if the diffs against 1.0.3a will not correctly update everything
(as per the RESYNC directory you had to correct), I suggest one of
the following actions vis-a-vis the diffs:
- Don't distribute them at all. Tell people they wouldn't work
with the current GNU diff/patch utils (verify that you're using
the current ones, of course :) and, besides, are almost half the
size of the tarball (at least for the complete-egcs distribution,
whose sizes I checked).
- Distribute them with "show-stopper" patches included that only
a complete RESYNC-like application fixes. That is, pick one or
more smallish files that are critical (maybe the ones that
requiring RESYNC'ing anyway), stuff something totally invalid
in them to cause a crash, generate the diffs, then provide the
proper (true 1.1) versions in RESYNC as you currently do for
the problematic files.
The last thing we want is to spend the next few months collectively
discovering all the interesting failure modes resulting from people
applying the 1.1 patch against 1.0.3a but not applying the RESYNC
stuff afterwards!!
