[ in general, better than egcs-1.0, apart from the f77 tests, where
the toon_1.f failures are extra - there are a lot more gcc and g++ tests]
egcs-971207 three staged compilers (with CFLAGS=-O2), passed 'make
gnucompare', and then made the rest of egcs.

libc-5.4.39, binutils-2.8.1.0.15, linux-2.0.32-SMP, ld.so-1.9.5
