Just for the record:
I made a mistake in a previous remark: The bug is still present in
gcc 3.3 (it is actually present in all compilers since 3.1 excluding
mainline). You just have to configure with --enable-checking to see
the bug.
Fortunately, the bug is really fixed in mainline (which will become gcc
3.4).
