patch into the 4.5 and 4.4 branches as is. We can still remove the
TARGET_MACHO part if it proves to be superfluous now (as I would

I'll try it on my next build - the more MACH-O specific stuff we can remove the happier i'll be :-)


.. I get an assembler syntax error on bootstrap (i686-apple-darwin9) if it's removed .. so I guess it needs to stay.
