... which I have now figured out, and it turned out not to be all that
alarming, just a minor instability in the guality expect scripts w.r.t.
multiple lines of output and order of testing for regex matches (see main list
for full details if interested).
As Richard already OK'd the mid-end and lto changes, and this involves none
of the build-system alterations, and I have now confirmed that it (as very
much to be both hoped for and expected!) doesn't cause any functional changes
to the compiler, I will go ahead and check it in shortly.
