I'd be so bold as to suggest that under no circumstances should the
properties of our revision control system be considered relevant or even taken
into account in evaluating the fitness or otherwise of a patch to the
compiler. That decision should be taken on software engineering principles
alone; if the tools we use aren't adequate in some way I would prefer we just
let them suck, rather than limit our choices about how and what kind of code
we write.
