Re: VTA merge - introduction

Arno, debuglocus is an experimental branch to see whether its even possible to
maintain some debug information in the source locus field or not. It
has not advanced past that, and even if it ever does, there are no
guarantees that it will either a) work as hoped, b) preserve enough
information to be useful, or c) be less complex in the end. There are a
number of issues with how expand treats locus fields which I have not
figured out how to address yet. I also have not worked on the branch
recently, and have no immediate plans to do so.
I think that everyone wants more complete and more accurate debugging
information from GCC -- at -O0 and with optimization enabled. The
question is whether VTA is the right solution -- right design and
right implementation. The debuglocus project also is trying to
address this problem, I believe.
So I'd suggest simply judging VTA on its own merits. :-)
