Well, roughly no commonly used platforms ship with unmodified 2.59. As a matter of practicality I always untar an FSF tarball of autoconf instead. For what that's worth.
Indeed. This is gcc - I now have both 2.13 and 2.59 custom FSF builds. And automake 1.9.3 as well.
openSUSE 10.2 now ships with 2.60 and automake 1.9.6. SLES10 and 10.1 have 2.59 and 1.9.6.
