OK, I'm totally confused.  The logic you objected to is exactly what is
in mainline gcc today.  I proposed to augment this logic with:

if (VAR_DECL)
  check decl and subdecls for call-clobber
else
  { existing logic here }

How is that going to give strictly worse results?
