Ok, I haven't had much chance to look at other bugs the last few weeks as I've been concentrating on trying to fix the new regressions caused by the fix for PR 27668.

Yes, the "clean-up-your-own-mess" ethics are generally exactly right. I just think that in this case, a more valuable use of your time is probably to attack the higher-priority issues.
