I guess I need to run autoconf after applying your patch.

Sorry for not mentionning it. Last time I changed things in the build mechanism, I was asked not to include the regenerated files in the patch.

You need to run autoconf, autoheader and automake (probably aclocal too, but then you'll be instructed to do it by another one -- automake, I think).
