Hum, I went searching for the issue involving cse and I can't find it now... :-( google wasn't helpful in finding it either. :-( After reviewing when the quoted code came into existence, I now think it was some other part of cse that was merely very similar to this.


Anyway, a benchmark on darwin of the two versions certainly would say which one is faster and by how much. I'd expect linux to show the same thing, but not as pronounced as darwin.

I withdraw my complaint, as I don't know that this one matters as much as the other one I was thinking of. Certainly, if it does, we can catch it later.
