I have nothing against Dan's patch, but you can't expect the compiler to magically stabilize if brand new code keeps being added regularly.

May I remind you that we're not only supposed to be in stage 3, but in strict regression fixing mode for some time?

I agree. I've browsed through Dan's patch briefly, and though it looks fine I think we should play it conservatively.

One reason is that brand new code will always have brand new bugs. Another reason is that several other patches in this category may feel left out.

IMO, this can wait until we branch.
