What's the point of worrying about this specific case when we don't handle overflow on any of the other uses of mult?

This is a case where a target supported type is being truncated to a host supported type, it's not a case of overflow of a target supported type. That's different to overflow of a target supported type. (Are there other cases of us doing this?)
