Richard Henderson asked me to revert the first patch, so I take it as a 4.1 material now. If you think it is worth putting this onto a branch (maybe together with the object size checking patch, having one separate branch for each of the patches although they are unrelated sounds overkill to me), I can create one.

Maybe this should go on the tcb branch or something? I"m pretty sure we have enough branches for 4.1 as it is :)
