Sorry, that won't help with my problem.  If MPFR is not present, the user
who types

.../configure --enable-languages=c++,f95

will get

     checking for correct version of gmp.h... yes
     checking for MPFR... no
     configure: error:
     The following requested languages were not found: f95
     The available languages are: c,c++,f95,java

That's right, currently it claims f95 is not available in this case.
