No, I do not appreciate that.  I don't even know what you mean by that.
In my mind, types_compatible_p was created exactly in order to isolate
vagaries of the front-end that result in pointer equality not being
sufficient.

I disagree strongly.  One because rtl has no types and therefore no
semantics at all.  Two because some of the more important optimizations
that need to be implemented for good anti-abstraction in (at least) C++
and Java are type-based, and therefore require that we've not corrupted
the type system.
