Bootstraps with my full O32 patch set and SUBTARGET_CPP_SPEC (both with
native as and gas) are now running and seem to be ok.  I have now idea why
editing the specs file directly failed in this case.

Ok, thanks.  If I recall correctly, it should be possible to go in during
stage 3 if it has been submitted early enough and requires no (or no
significant) revision.
