[cs] merged compile-server branch

- Subject: [cs] merged compile-server branch
I updated the compile=server-branch with the trunk.
I used objc-improvements-merge-20030811 as a convenient
recent tag.
I also merged in Kaveh's 08-11 changes to gcse.c because
the tagged version of gcse.c was inconsistent.
So far there is no actual compile server code checked in,
but I'll be checking in my latest and greatest patches over
the next few days. While I will try to check things in
such that at any time the branch build, I make no promises
that I will actually do so, until I have them all checked in,
at which point I will make an announcement.
