Yes, it does help: my cross-compiler setup (RH 6.2 with
gcc-2.95.3 for gcc build purposes), broken without this patch,
works with this patch. I could build mmix-knuth-mmixware and
FWIW the test-results so far look similar to before the
breakage. I'll do an ordinary bootstrap+check round with the
system compiler as well.
