There's no other explanation, I've gone completely insane and lost all grip on reality. My apologies to everyone, please ignore me for a while.

I think I must have picked up the usage of --disable-pch from this

You'll be pleased to hear I've been using it without problems on
cygwin for weeks :>

p.s. I've discovered that my bootstrap failure is officially called
PR libstdc++/10935.

Actually it is now 11341 because that one has more information in it.
