I think it is pretty clear that it means 64-bit.  Cf. e.g. Solaris 2
isalist(5):

     6. sparcv9
           Indicates the SPARC V9 instruction set, as defined  in
           The  SPARC  Architecture  Manual, Version 9, Prentice-
           Hall, 1994.

This is the established name for this architecture, and I don't see a real
reason to invent (or even promote) our own.  Even worse, SPARC64 is the
name of HAL/Fujitsu's implementation of the SPARC-V9 architecture, just
like UltraSPARC is the Sun/TI implementation:

Clearly a different beast from generic 64-bit SPARC.
