Besides, given that all of config.sub, gcc, gdb and ld still allow for the
sparcv9 form, it would create even more confusion to obsolete that name in
gcc only.  If we really wanted to do this (which I still consider
inappropriate for Solaris 2), this should be done consistently all over the
place.

All of these legitimate concerns would seem to be easily correctable with the attached patch (please note that this is only a suggestion -- it is not addressed to config@gcc.gnu.org)
