I would hope that the SC, for instance, knows what branches are
actively being maintained.  Being a volunteer project, it is simply
not feasible to maintain all versions forever.  I assume that, for
instance, 3.0 is no longer actively maintained.  If someone reports a
bug in the 3.0 series, will anyone fix it?

I had assumed that this sort of thing was decided long ago and, from
reading gcc.gnu.org's web pages, concluded that 3.2, 3.3 and mainline
were the branches under active development/maintenance.  Am I wrong?
