Surely I'm not arguing that, or else we would not have been having
emails about C90 and C99 stuff on Glibc systems.

I don't argue against close cooperation with Glibc systems.  Au
contraire.  However, my point was to provide supports for those
non-glibc systems since it makes it possible for some of us who can't
always have access to glibc systems to continue the work on the
project.
