Loren, please check this in gcc mainline, and queue it up for 3.1.1.
Unfortunately, this is not a complete solution. When archives are
used as convenience libraries and no --whole-archive flag is present
in the linker, object files are extracted from the archive, in which
case we'd lose some of the archive components. I don't have any
idea I like on how to fix this :-(
