The GCC mailing lists already have large volumes of mail (often over
10Mbyte/month for some of the lists, over 60Mbyte/month total).  The odd
400kbyte patch isn't particularly significant in this; people who can't
handle large volumes of mail aren't on the lists.  They might be reading
via the web archives - in which retrieving diffs for new files is a pain
if they aren't sent to gcc-patches because the links from gcc-cvs archives
to them don't work (web/638).  The CVS source tree may in general be on a
different system from that where the mail is received.
