My patch actually contains yours as well, but that hunk of the patch didn't
get included in my email.  Oops.

Very good point.  (We'll need to be sure and keep using single quotes in
the C_INCLUDE_DIR assignment, or sh/configure will expand them too early.)
This means that the extraneous bits of my patch don't need to go in.  I'm all
for smaller changes.  Can you go ahead and check this in, and either remove
or comment out the 'ac_cv_prog_LN_S' assignment, so we have symlinks again?
