I can't (and won't), since glibc doesn't support many OSes beyond GNU/Linux.

Does this show up in the testsuite? (As I said, I have yet to compare -m32
and -m64 results in full detail).
And is there any way to provide a workaround, short of integrating the
subreg-byte stuff from the mainline?
