Hmm.  If that's the necessary tradeoff, I'd actually prefer that.  My
profiling has shown that there are other parts of the compiler that
waste memory much more flagrantly.

Anyhow, I don't see why it would make things any worse.  I'm
essentially proposing the same layout as you -- just avoiding encoding
the structure definition in cpplib.
