This is why I posted the early design of this change to
gcc-patches, then the proposed implementation, then the actual patch, then
finally applied the patch -- with a week wait between each. I was afraid
that Sparc and Linux might be the most delicate in this area.
Thanks for proposing solutions within this new framework. With
your change to single quotes, does $(PICFLAG) get expanded properly when
used as a compiler commandline option?
