Hi Tom,
For the record, that's not "non-standard" (unless your particular /usr/bin/true is peculiarly non-compliant with 1003.2).
/usr/bin/true complies with IEEE Std 1003.2-1992 ("POSIX.2").

Thanks to Jim Wilson's help, I eliminated a non-standard file,
/usr/bin/true, which was interfering with the gcc scripts.
Now everything is fine with gcc building.
