gcc 3.4.2 on s390

Subject: gcc 3.4.2 on s390

Hi!

I'm trying to build gcc 3.4.2 on a SUSE linux for s390 (gcc 2.95.2).
The first time the bootstrapped compiler is used (xgcc) I get an
error from the assembler:

Error: invalid switch -m(null)

I tried using both GNU assembler versions 2.9.1 and 2.15 but the error
is always the same.

Can anybody help on this?
