Hi Raj,
For Red Hat 8, you should use their RPM mechanism to install and uninstall
applications, such as GCC.
I'm not familiar with the details of RPM, but from those who use it they
like it.
(I use fink.)
If you want to do it yourself and NOT use RPM, I can only caution to tread
carefully.
