Debug info - command

Hi All,
Is there any command to find out whether my executables( say a.out)
have the debug info in them or not. One way is to try to load it into the
debugger and check it .......... in case the debugger is not installed on
the machine , I need a quick way to find it................ On HP-UX there
is a command called odump with which we can get the info about the
executables ........... is there any equivalent command for odump on linux
?????

In case this is not the right mailing list for this question please
suggest me the right mailing list for linux ............Thanks in advance.

Regards,
SaT
