- Subject: Installation problem of gcc-3.0.3 on Solaris 8
Hi,
I only joined this list yesterday, so I hope this is not old-hat. I have been
trying to install gcc-3.0.3 on my SPARC Ultra 60 (dual 300 MHz CPUs, 768 Mb RAM,
Solaris 8). Basically I did
# cd /usr/local/src/gcc-3.0.3
# configure --prefix=/usr/local/stow/gcc-3.0.3
# make bootstrap
# make install
gcc runs okay:
# /usr/local/stow/gcc-3.0.3/bin/gcc -v
Using builtin specs.
Configured with: configure --prefix=/usr/local/stow/gcc-3.0.3 : (reconfigured)
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.0.3
This installs gcc, but when I try to compile any C programme (I've not tried
fortran etc), I get reports of an installation problem.
# cat test.c
#include <stdio.h>
main()
{
printf("Hello world\n");
}
parrot /usr/local/src/gcc-3.0.3 # /usr/local/stow/gcc-3.0.3/bin/gcc test.c
gcc: installation problem, cannot exec `cc1': No such file or directory
Incidentally, I needed to install autogen to get gcc-3.0.3 to compile. Given
that the configure script does not check for this, it seems a bug to require a
programme but without checking for it.
