help for installing gcc2.8.1 on solaris 8 (intel)

Hi,

Because of libgist ( a indexing software from uc berkeley) I need install 
gcc2.8.1 on my sloaris 8 (intel). I have installed gcc2.9.5 on it. But could 
not use it compile libgist.

My very concern is that solaris 8 came later than gcc 2.8. So do you think I 
can install gcc2.8.1 on it. If yes, what about "as" and "ld",
what edition should I use?
