This is not about the compiler, but about the assembler and linker,
that are part of binutils. You have to configure them with a triplet
that indicates you want a.out binaries. Which triplet it is depends
on which architecture you want it to target. Even if GCC doesn't call
the linker in a way that causes it to generate non-a.out binaries,
there's always objcopy. You may want to configure binutils with
--enable-targets=all.
