I will attempt to generate a testcase for you. I tried useing the
-savetemps and only got the .s outputs, which specifically you didn't
want.
I should be able to create a small example which illustrates the problem.
As to testing with a different version of spu-gcc I'm uncertain if I have
access to one, as I don't maintain the machines I work on.
