To add: g77 was part of GCC 3.x. Starting from GCC 4.0.0, the Fortran compiler
of the GCC suite is called gfortran. gfortran supports Fortran 77, Fortran 95
and some parts of Fortran 2003 and supports almost all g77 extensions.
GCC 3.x and 4.0.x are no longer maintained. As this bug does not occur with
gfortran, I would recomment to update to GCC 4.1.x or later.
Binary builds of the experimental GCC 4.3.0 are available from:
http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/GFortranBinaries
Note: If you have a more-or-less recent Linux distribution, it might well be
that it ships "gfortran" (and "g77" is only additionally provided).
