[Bug AWT/21599] New: transparent images don't work

I'm using the applet here:
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1069669
with gcjappletviewer.
(As of this writing I needed a patch to make this work at all,
see the classpath-patches list.)

If I run this applet with the JDK, the images for the chess pieces
appear to have a transparent background.  With gcjappletviewer,
they do not, which looks noticeably odd.
