gcc version 4.0.0 20041120 (experimental)
$ cat vary.f90
program main
call foo(3.0)
contains
subroutine foo(a)
real, intent(inout) :: a
a = a + 3.
end subroutine foo
end program main
$ gfortran vary.f90
$
The compiler should detect that the acutal parameter cannot be intent(inout)
in this case.
