Sorry about this one, apparently bitwise and has lower predecence
than ==. i was absolutely certain this wasn't the case. my bad!

20kb!! what is going on, as this is hardly the behaviour i was expecting?
i can mail you the source if the need arises. the compiler options were
heaviest
optimizations and wall. v3.3.3.
