good question. if you ever get the answer, let me know.
however, on my system, if i just configure gcc 3.4.1 without any additional
options it fails. on the exact same system 3.4.0 does not fail to configure and
compile... i've compiled my entire Gentoo GNU/linux install using gcc 3.4.0.
